Hospice Music Therapy
Music therapy for Hospice patients can provide opportunities for reminiscence and satisfaction with life, anxiety relief, reduction of pain and discomfort, and stimulation and interest in an activity when no other approach is effective. Music therapy provides the family or caregivers an opportunity to share quality time together making music.
This service is currently provided for free through The Music Therapy Impact Fund. This is a fund with The North Valley Community Foundation started by colleague Erin Haley, MT-BC, that implements music therapy programs and provides individual music therapy services. Pam Sachs is a participating music therapist with this program.
Anyone who fills out a request form for music therapy will receive it. However, the person receiving music therapy must be receiving hospice care from an accredited organization, such as Enloe Hospice, Feather River Hospice, Butte Home Health and Hospice, etc.
To request music therapy for a Hospice patient, please click on this link: www.nvcf.org/music-therapy-impact-grant.
Your contact information will be received by a member of the board for The Music Therapy Impact Fund, who will then forward the information to a board certified music therapist. The therapist will contact you to set up the best time to meet with the individual. Your information will otherwise remain confidential.
Relying solely on donations, this pilot program will remain in effect for up to three years. The goal is to show the benefits and efficacy of music therapy so that it will ultimately be provided as a standard of care through all hospice providers.
